Very seldomly have I encountered a rum book solely written for one rum. This book written by René, is 100% about Ron Zacapa Centenario, an exquisite rum produced in Guatemala. It gives me great pleasure to share with you this book for two very important reasons: first and foremost, because this book was written by a dear friend whom I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time in Barbados over a decade ago, during one of Caribbean Week’s Annual Rum Taste competitions. Secondly, because of the rum itself. This rum has set many high standards within the rum industry and that’s why I refer to it as a “Trend-Setting” rum.

René really does an excellent job of taking you on a “journey” into the world of Zacapa, from the people behind the production, to how the sugarcane is harvested, refined, fermented and distilled, to the aging and blending until the final product is ready for consumers to enjoy. René graciously provides many great photos throughout the book, making it easier to visualize each one of the processes.

When you have finished reading this book, you will have a better understanding and a greater appreciation of what is involved in making this fine spirit of Guatemala. You will also truly understand the time and dedication René has put into publishing this book.

I hope you enjoy your journey through the world of Ron Zacapa just as much as I did. Congratulations René!
