Topper’s Rhum Banana, Vanilla Cinnamon Liqueur
I was walking through one of my local stores when I noticed they had a couple of Topper products on the shelves. I picked it up because I had heard about their liqueurs for a while and was curious to see if their product lived up to the hype. The Topper’s Rhum distillery is a popular tourist destination on the island of St. Maarten. Known for their vibrantly colored bottles, their line is comprised of six products: white, spiced, and four flavored offerings. They produce and blend their products on site, and in this case, the Banana, Vanilla, and Cinnamon liqueur is 21% ABV and made with “Natural Flavors”.
Appearance
The 750 ml yellow colored bottle has a swing top closure and is wrapped with a strong security wrap. In the glass, the liquid is a light amber, and agitating the liquid generates no banding or legs, it just leaves a ring of residue in its wake. Out of curiosity, I did a tactile test and discovered it was very sticky.
Nose
The aroma has a strong banana note with a little bit of cinnamon nipping around the edges.
Palate
The texture of the liquid is surprisingly chewy. In quick sequence, the fresh banana, sweet vanilla, and cinnamon hit the palate with a nip of alcohol lingering on the tongue. The sweetness of the product lingers on the tongue for quite a while.
Review
I picked this product up out of curiosity as I do not delve into the world of flavored products that often. This liqueur hits all the flavor notes that they advertise without any other influences. It is all base alcohol and flavoring agents, nothing more, nothing less. I can appreciate the efficiency of their operation as I am aware they are much loved by tourists on the island. If you are a fan of the flavors, finding a cocktail recipe to go with this product might be a bit trickier. It would work in any recipe that calls for a banana liqueur, such as a Chunky Monkey or Tropical Breeze. Allow your curiosity to guide you with this product and the rest of the Toppers’ line.
