Around The Rum World
by Carl Kanto
On November 5, 6, and 7, 2015, the island paradise of St. Maarten came alive with rhum. With the hosting of the fifth annual Caribbean Rum & Beer Festival at the Sonestoa Maho Beach Resort, rums from South America, across the Caribbean and North America clashed for the gold, silver and bronze medals in the various categories.
The first day started with the judging of over 65 rums and 20 beers. The competition was so close that the judges really had a difficult time making their decisions.
The second and third days started as usual with the exhibition of rums, beers and of course unique Caribbean cuisine. There were lots of sampling of products mixed with Master Classes and decorated with War of the Cocktails on both days. The final curtains came down on the third night with an “all out” party to Caribbean music. A fitting end to a true Caribbean festival. You weren’t there? Sorry you missed out “big time”. See you next year at the sixth edition of the Caribbean Rum & Beer Festival in 2016.
